welcome to the department of mathematics and statistics

数学 is perhaps the most intellectually challenging and practical major you can choose. Some students choose a mathematics major because of the enjoyment and beauty of the subject. Others choose the major for its practicality and applicability to the sciences, 工程, finance and even the social sciences. Studying mathematics develops rigorous analytical thinking skills that are prized in all fields of human endeavor.

  • Marathons Adding Up for SFA Alumnus

    Tom Mason is executive vice president and treasurer at Hillwood, one of the country's top real estate developers. Aside from his professional accomplishments, his most impressive achievement may be the many marathons he has run around the world - raising money for charity every step of the way.

    After completing a marathon in Antarctica in 2017, Mason achieved his goal of running a marathon on each continent and became a member of the Seven Continent Club.  Most importantly, he has raised thousands of dollars for charity, including raising $26,000 in the Boston Marathon to support  Massachusetts General Hospital. Mason is also a member of the SFA Board of Regents.

  • Dr. Keith Hubbard Teaches the Language of Problem-Solving

    克莱尔·克罗恩

    数学 major 克莱尔·克罗恩 is a fast learner – and a fast runner. Claire runs cross country and track for SFA, and in Fall 2016 she was named a member of the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Axe ‘em, Claire!

    Cadey Widacki

    Cadey is a senior mathematics major with a secondary education minor and is a recipient of our Talented Teachers in Training for 德州 scholarship (T4). She will be student teaching this fall as she begins work toward a Master of Science in mathematical sciences.

    Crystal Calvit

    During her sophomore year at SFA, Ladyjack soccer player Crystal Calvit discovered her love of mathematics and decided to pursue a mathematics major with a certification in secondary education. When she’s not playing soccer or solving math problems, Crystal hangs out at SFA’s Baptist Student Ministry.
